Asshat Creed_

Still on the topic of female misrepresentation, I’d like to state my opinion on one of the most ridiculous things I've read about in the gaming world.

A few months ago, I read about the reason why the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed 3 couldn't be a woman, and frankly, I think the reason is a load of crap.

According to the creative director of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed, the American Revolution is a time period that is “the history of men”, and a female assassin traipsing around men would “feel kind of wrong”, so wrong that “people would stop believing it.”

So I guess we can accept that memories are passed to descendants through DNA ummm...what? (!) , but it is unthinkable that Desmond had a female ancestor who was also an assassin.

I’m not American, nor have I studied American history, but a quick Google search revealed to me that yes, there were women who contributed to the Revolution as more than housewives: some delivered secret messages, others were spies and there were even soldiers, so don’t tell me that women couldn’t have done anything assassin-y during this time period.

The female protagonist would feature an even bigger challenge to the game and an interesting point of view: she would have to work harder to prove herself and fight against her role of submissiveness, or she could be disguised as a man and there would be fear of discovery. Both would be big twists comparing to the previous games and turn this sequel far more interesting.

But who would've guessed that there had been female assassins in History before, or that women can be stealthy, or good at spying, or good at climbing, or hold a sword…

You know what? They can be and do all those things!

So instead of giving a shitty excuse like women didn't do anything during the American Revolution, own up to your sexism and admit that you don’t know how to look up facts in Wikipedia, or simply say that the team feels that this part of the story should be seen through the eyes of a man. I could've given a better excuse that actually makes sense in AC-verse: the memories are stored in the Y-chromosome.

But, oh well, it has been decided...
